Furniture
Here's a collection of pieces I've made over the years.

Victorian HighchairI had the opportunity to restore a vintage, victorian highchair. Well used, it had accumulated years of grime and rust. The back plate of the chair, a plywood rabbit silhouette had been damaged, and the family I was doing this job for far preferred cats to rabbits! Thus I came up with a new design to go on the back, that would be strong enough to last, yet with the sleek, thin body of a cat. Notice the tail joins with the head at the top, then hidden from view, with the ears tab in order to achieve this strength.
This job gave me a permanent hatred of sanding. |
Server CabinetA subcontracted job from an IT company, supplying servers for a small eco-company in Stroud. There were no off-the-shelf server cabinets that would fit in the space, and they wanted something more sturdy and well ventilated.
This job involved working with clients with a very clear vision of the shape and purpose, with my job being to come up with a strong frame/structure and manufacture it. As I never worked directly with the client, I didn't get to see it installed, but they seemed very pleased with how it all turned out. |
Bathroom CabinetA pile of very nice, if rather short planks of ash wood. An old dilapidated bathroom cabinet in need of replacing. And my want to create something using only mechanical joints, no screws or dowels (apart from hinges obviously).
My first dabble at "fine furniture making". And while more time, effort and planning was required in order to manufacture in this method, the finished piece is very satisfying. Something you can't buy from ikea to be sure... |
